Email Mentor Program

Purpose

The purpose of the Honors Alumni E-mail mentor program is to connect Honors alumni with current Honors students. Mentors foster an academic, developmental, and professional relationship with current students by offering advice in their degree program, tips on how to get into graduate school, interviewing skills, and career advice.

Requirements to be a mentor

• You must have an active e-mail account
• You must either have at least one semester of graduate school OR are working full time
• You must be willing to actively e-mail your mentee at least twice a month for a year

Examples of popular topics to discuss with mentees:

• Degree program
• Your career (what you do, how long your day is, promotional opportunities, stress factors, needed skills, etc.)
• How to get into graduate school
• Networking opportunities in your field
• How to interview (do’s and don’ts that you have experienced)
• Clubs and Organizations (your involvement or recommendations)
• Resume tips
• Teachers and classes
• Campus questions
• Buying a new home; relocating

Benefits of being an e-mentor

• You never have to leave your home or office
• The minimum requirement is a mere two e-mails a month for a year
• YOU are the wise, experienced one with all of the answers!
• Looks great on a resume
• It is extremely easy
• You get to lead the topics
• It helps make you more eligible for award nominations
• It keeps you connected to Honors and UCF
• It is your chance to help out a current student and possibly make a real difference in their life
• You might make a new friend! You can have more than one mentee if you choose.
• You will receive a certificate of appreciation
